Honeywell to Deliver First EGI with M-Code in 2023

Honeywell to Deliver First EGI with M-Code in 2023

A next-generation solution to prevent GPS signal-jamming on military aircraft will arrive in early 2023, when Honeywell fields the first fully functioning Embedded Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System (EGI) with M-Code.

“The U.S. military and our allies have been waiting for implementation of M-Code as the navigation standard since the Department of Defense announced plans to upgrade the military’s GPS anti-jamming capabilities more than a decade ago,” said Nik Hartney, director of marketing and product management for Honeywell’s Military Navigation team.

Honeywell is making it easy to upgrade its EGI system by swapping out the current Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) card with a new M-Code card. The Honeywell solution is flexible and adaptable to meet the unique needs of different aircraft models.

“Within the next several years, all military aircraft will need to be equipped with EGI equipment capable of receiving M-Code signals and the current technology will be phased out,” Hartney continued. “In fact, the SAASM cards are no longer available and the DOD has prohibited spending on any hardware that is not M-Code compatible. So, military aircraft operators need to act now to prepare for the transition to M-Code.”

Honeywell is the only EGI supplier set to deliver qualified M-Code enabled EGI units in 2023. The company is now ready to take orders from military operators.

“We encourage customers to get ahead of the game because we are anticipating enormous demand for the EGI with M-Code,” Hartney said. “Lead times could be as long as 12 months.”

A pioneer in EGI technology combining the advantages of inertial navigation technology and GPS, Honeywell is a leader in EGI technologies for military applications with more systems deployed worldwide than any other supplier. In fact, Honeywell has provided more than 25,000 EGI units for leading fighter, transport, vertical takeoff and landing, and rotary-wing aircraft—more than 70 aircraft types for more than 30 nations.
